Alterra Hub: Introduction

Caution: Alterra Universal Transponder is unable to establish a connection to an Authorized Alterra Network. Alterra Hub now running in Autonomous Mode. Alternate instructions have been loaded to this PDA.

If you are reading this and you have survived an emergency evacuation of a capital-class ship equipped with Alterra technology: Congratulations! The hard part is over. If you are reading this and have just arrived at a remote Alterra Facility: Congratulations! The hard part is just starting.

This operating mode has one directive: to ensure you never feel abandoned by Alterra Corp.

The Alterra Hub and Alterra Hub Fabricator Facility bring you:

• high-quality goods & services at excellent prices

• a clear conscience, knowing you won’t accidentally use a licensed item without paying royalties

• the peace of mind that comes with paying your debts on time

The Fabricator and Builder Tool are designed to recreate Products from Alterra-Kits (made with Alterra Pre-Packaged Matter Technology) but can be adapted to use local materials in an emergency. Adaptability to planetary environments depends on the available materials, making some environments more challenging, or more deadly, than others. (Remember that materials you gather are the property of the Alterra Corporation and you will be liable to reimburse the full market price for all the materials you use.)

Rather than cobbling together specific, possibly hard to find, local materials, the Alterra Hub lets you purchase Alterra-Kits and Products from an authorized Alterra Hub Fabrication Facility using your Local Account Balance. (Please note that your Local Account Balance and Alterra Account Balance will be merged when you enter an Authorized Alterra Network.)

The Builder Tool will reformat your Alterra-Kits into your selected Product at your desired location. With Alterra Hub, you will never fear dying in need of a hunk of molybdenum while floating on an ocean of mercury (subject to available Local Alterra Credit).

Due to an emergency or local working conditions, you may not have easy access to your Alterra Project Coordinator to provide you Job Assignments or authorize payments. In light of this, the Alterra Hub will use available mineral scans and the latest available mineral-market price update to set a credit-bounty on local ores and minerals suitable for the Alterra Ore Consumer (see: Alterra Hub > Alterra Ore Consumer).

Collecting vital materials for Alterra Corporation along with diligent work in your Job Assignment will let you build your Local Account balance and service your debts in a timely manner.

Module: Alterra Account Information

When first using an Alterra Hub, you will need to establish a temporary login as both your personal work files and Alterra Corp Accounting files have been encrypted and can only be retrieved by a licensed engineer. This login will be matched to your biometric data and you will be issued an Alterra Debit Card.

As you are outside an Authorized Alterra Network, you will need the Alterra Debit Card with you when you check out. If you accidentally lose or destroy your card, you can request a new card through the Alterra Account Information Module.

Once you receive your Alterra Debit Card, you will be able to purchase Products and submit a debt payment to Alterra Corp. Submitted debt payments will be synchronized when the Alterra Universal Transponder can reach Alterra Corporate Accounting or your Alterra Hub PDA enters an Authorized Alterra Network.

For added convenience, you can select Automatic Debt Deduction to automatically pay a portion of your Ore Consumer credits to cover your debts.

Remember: peace of mind comes from paying debts on time.

Module: Alterra Hub SpaceTime Integration Module

This is a Highly Experimental hardware module from Alterra SpaceTime Services.

This module energizes the substrate material in the FCStudios PDA to create a sufficiently rigid and anisotropic Einstein-Rosen equation state to open a single-sided Einstein-Rosen bridge to the selected personal Quantum Teleporter or Quantum Teleporter Vehicle Pad.

Nota Bene: this method of quantum teleportation is not considered safe; is only licensed for research purposes and emergency survival; may induce various genetic issues, illnesses, lost limbs or internal organs, or other unforeseen medical ailments; may induce vomiting, incontinence, and impotence; may be addictive; may lead to sobbing when next in civilization and stuck in traffic.

Module: Alterra Hub Transport Drone Tracker

At the lower right of the PDA display, you will find the Alterra Hub Transport Drone Tracker icon. Here you can see current orders and their estimated time of delivery as well as pending orders yet to be shipped.

As an added convenience, orders not yet shipped may be canceled from the Drone Tracker display.

Module: Alterra Hub Fabrication Facility Purchasing

At the upper right of the Purchasing display you will find options to open your Shopping Cart or Return a Product. The available Product Catalogs are shown in the center of the display.

Alterra Hub Fabrication Facility currently has access to the following Product Catalogs:

When you have made your Product selections, you may view your Shopping Cart, remove items as you need, and proceed to Buy All. Nota Bene: The Transport Drone delivers products to an Alterra Hub Depot (see Alterra Hub > Alterra Hub Depot) when settled in the Alterra Transport Drone Terminal (see Alterra Hub > Alterra Transport Drone Terminal).

If you do not have access to an Alterra Hub Depot and Alterra Transport Drone Terminal, the Alterra Hub Fabrication Facility can not deliver your purchases. Visit your nearest Alterra Hub Fabrication Facility to obtain your very own Drone Terminal and Depot.

Alterra Hub Depot

The Alterra Hub Depot is the merger of simplicity, efficiency, and security in advanced Product handling. Each Alterra Hub Depot holds up to 48 items for maximum flexibility scaling Pickup Areas to your local needs.

The Alterra Hub Depot interfaces with your Alterra FCStudios PDA so that only your purchases are displayed for pickup.

When creating your Pickup Area, traffic flow should be considered. Products will fill Alterra Hub Depots in the order they were created. For high-traffic areas, it may be advantageous to stagger Alterra Hub Depots to avoid crowding.

Nota Bene: In an emergency, Alterra Hub Depots can be constructed from local materials. Remember that materials you gather are the property of the Alterra Corporation and you will be liable to reimburse the full market price for materials you use.

Alterra Ore Consumer

The Alterra Ore Consumer offers you an easy but important opportunity to earn credit for your Local Alterra Account should your Alterra Project Coordinator be unavailable to issue you Job Assignments; you are at a remote location without a connection to Alterra Corp; or you have survived an emergency evacuation of a capital-class ship equipped with Alterra technology.

The Alterra Ore Consumer is a fully automated ore processor that provides necessary local materials to an Alterra Hub Fabrication Facility. Simply deposit up to 10 minerals chunks into its hopper and it will immediately begin processing. Your Local Alterra Account will be automatically credited when ore processing is complete. The compensation for ore delivery is determined by a credit matrix based on available planetary mineral scans and the latest available mineral market price update. (Your mission may have secured different mineral market price matrices so be sure check what “Options” you have available)

The Ore Consumer interface will show the ores being processed, time till the current ore is processed, and the value of the remaining items being processed. Processing Speeds follow the Min-Low-High-Max Alterra Standard and power usage, also displayed, increases with processing speed. Changes in production speed take effect on the next ore processed.

Nota Bene: In an emergency, Alterra Ore Consumers can be constructed from local materials. Remember that materials you gather are the property of the Alterra Corporation and you will be liable to reimburse the full market price for materials you use.

Warning: Ore Consumers are extremely loud and can vibrate the air and fluid around them which may induce feelings of nausea. Please plan your Base Architecture accordingly.

Alterra Transport Drone Terminal

All Alterra Hub Fabricator Facilities are equipped with one or more “Happy Transport Drones” in the event that there is a loss of connection to the Alterra ProductShare Network.

The Alterra Transport Drone Terminal provides the Alterra “Happy Transport Drone” a cozy, environmentally secure place to transfer purchased and returned items and perform any needed self-maintenance.

Place the Alterra Transport Drone Terminal in a convenient location so that it is easy for the “Happy Transport Drone” to reach but out of the way of other Base traffic lanes. The Alterra Transport Drone Terminal does not need to be in proximity to the Alterra Hub Depots, it only has to be on a Base Platform.

Nota Bene: The Alterra “Happy Transport Drone” can carry up to 80 items at a time. Please limit your purchases accordingly.

The Alterra Transport Drone Terminal and “Happy Transport Drone” are not rated for extreme or hazardous environments. Please contact Alterra Customized Products for specialized models and licensing arrangements.

FCStudios began humbly as a small group mostly dedicated to modding games, but it soon became apparent mere games were too small a stage. “No more!” they said, “We shall mod the entire damned universe!” And the rest, as they say, is history.

In actuality, FCStudios stands for “Field Creators Studios” and not “F-ing Cool Studios” as it is sometimes translated — but they both sound good to Alterra Corp.

AlterraGen

Alterra Biodynamics Division brings you another great leap forward in bioreactor technology: the AlterraGen.

Smaller and more flexible than its larger predecessors, several AlterraGen units may be comfortably fit into a single Multi-Purpose Habitat Module. (NB: Alterra Health and Safety recommends housing no more than seven units in a multipurpose room, though it will house eight in emergencies — and if you’ve been skipping dessert).

The AlterraGen is environmentally sealed and suitable for exterior use, giving you maximum design flexibility and reducing the required interior space.

Like all bioreactors, AlterraGen chemically composts organic materials, converting them into energy over time, proportional to the calories in the organic matter. AlterraGen can accept all plant matter, from seeds and spores to moldy fruits and vegetables, and will process most animal matter (fat, muscle, eggs, etc) and some organic waste products.

From the interface, biomatter is loaded into one of 9 composting bins. Each biomatter item will be placed in its own composting bin for tailored bio-reaction.

The bins can adapt to hold large or small items within the unit. Test your biological items in your local environment for optimal results. The interface will let you observe which biomatter objects are currently being composted.

By tailoring the bio-reaction to the specific biomatter in a bin, the AlterraGen is able to extract more energy for a given period of time than the standard bio-reactor and can more efficiently extract energy from large items – up to 2.2 times the amount a standard bio-reactor can extract – giving you more options in standing bio-matter reserves for times the AlterraGen must remain unattended.

If the unit needs to be switched off, the organic matter composting will be chemically suspended and the power reserve will not discharge until the unit is switched on.

Bio Fuel

Bioreactors are a safe, environmentally friendly way to generate power. Just throw in whatever biological matter you have on hand and out comes power. But somehow, it’s never that easy. Biological material is messy, can be time-consuming to harvest or catch, and be unwieldy to lug around and cram into the bioreactor’s material input port.

Not so with Alterra Bio Fuel.

High-quality, compressed biological material in an easy to carry, stylish container. Suitable for all bioreactors and available at your fingertips from the Alterra Hub.

What’s it made of? Don’t even think about it: just throw the entire container in the bioreactor. No mess, no smell, no hassle.

JetStream T242

The JetStream T242 builds on earlier designs of fluid-current turbines by offering Alterra RunSafe Technology. RunSafe Technology integrates minor self-repair capabilities into an already sturdy design, reducing maintenance in harsher or more biologically complex environments and virtually eliminating it in clement ones. RunSafe Technology makes the Alterra JetStream T242 the ideal choice for all environments.

Like all turbine generators, the energy produced is related to the current flow. Expect energy output to vary in different areas and to fluctuate if your environment has variable currents. The T242 will sense and adapt to changes in current direction, maximizing current flow.

For operational data regarding the T242, simply approach the unit and the information will be transmitted to your personal, always-up display.

The JetStream T242 has a fluid viscosity range of .8 centipoise to 500 centipoise and should be submerged at least 3 meters. Optimal output occurs between 1 and 15 centipoise (water and ethylene glycol respectively at 70F/21C and Earth standard atmospheric pressure).

For viscosities outside the operating range of the T242, consult the Alterra JetStream digital catalog of designs.

The Alterra JetStream: where there’s movement, there’s power!

PowerStorage

The Alterra PowerStorage Advanced is the next evolution in Power Overload Protection. Re-engineered to use TwistingTunnel Technology, an offshoot of the technology used by Alterra SpaceTime Solutions in its Quantum Travel line of products (Home > Quantum Travel), an Alterra PowerStorage unit is able to deliver a whopping 10,000 units of energy storage in a maintenance-free, external housing unit.

Operation is fully automatic and self-monitoring, charging when power is plentiful and discharging when the base grid is under extreme load.

Power discharge is into the Base Grid and via integrated Power Transmitter.

Technical data will be projected to your always-up display when near the PowerStorage unit but its charge level is viewable from a distance from the vertical fill level display and color of the virtual particles. Colors will range from Deep Red when discharged to Bright Green when fully charged.

Power uptake can be optionally set from 1 energy-unit-per-second to 50 energy-units-per-second to give maximum flexibility in power-grid tailoring.

Alterra PowerStorage: the simple solution to life’s complicated power problems

Solar Cluster

The Alterra Solar Cluster is the latest in efficient photon conversion, giving you a reliable, maintenance free power source anywhere the sun goes. Built with Alterra SunChaser technology, the Solar Cluster not only tracks the strongest solar source for optimal energy output, but can respond even when normal operations are powered down.

For optimal results, the Alterra Solar Cluster should be constructed in direct sunlight and clear atmosphere; however, the Alterra Solar Cluster can operate in harsh and aquatic environments as well.

Power throughput is equivalent to 10 standard, optimally placed solar panels. Internal storage is equal to almost 1.75 Power Cells. It is strongly recommended that the Alterra Solar Cluster be paired with one or more Alterra PowerStorage units (see Energy > PowerStorage) depending on dusk-to-dawn energy requirements.

Telepower Pylon

The Alterra Telepower Pylon is at the sharpest point of cutting edge in abstract Base-to-Base power networks. Using TwistingTunnel Technology – an offshoot of the technology used by Alterra SpaceTime Solutions in its Quantum Travel line of products (Home > Quantum Travel) – the Telepower Pylon is able to create, dismantle, and recreate power delivery networks in seconds while delivering power over vast distances and through nearly any material.

Each Alterra Telepower Pylon can connect to other Telepower Pylons in one of two mods:
• In Push Mode, the base will send, but not receive, power.
• In Pull Mode, the base will receive, but not send, power.

If multiple Telepower Pylons are placed on a Base, they will synchronize so that any Telepower Pylon on a Base can be used.

The MK1 Interconnection Module is supplied with every Alterra Telepower Pylon and allows up to 6 connections to other Telepower Pylons. Two upgrade modules are available:
• the Telepower MK2 Upgrade, which allows up to Telepower Pylons 8 connections
• the Telepower MK3 Upgrade, which allows up to Telepower Pylons 10 connections

The display will list Telepower Pylons in the opposite mode (i.e, when in Push mode, the display will show Telepower Pylons in Pull mode) safe and easy configuration. Select a Telepower Pylon to create a connection, de-select to break the connection.

Power Network Architecture Note: Power delivery is ‘virtually’ lossless, there is some energy cost for signal stability. This cost is 0.00085 energy per second for each meter of distance for each pulling pylon. At 1000 meters, this cost is 51 energy per minute — the equivalent of a standard Water Filter device. (Nota Bene: tinkering with a Alterra Telepower Pylon to alter its efficiency will void all warranties and may incur legal costs due to copyright and/or patent violations)

Universal Charger

The Alterra Universal Charger is the practical answer to your mobile power needs, holding 10 Power Cells or 10 Batteries at a time and recharging them when Base Power is plentiful.

The high-contrast display keeps you constantly informed of each item’s recharge state so you can always grab a full Battery or Power Cell, even when you’re in a hurry.

The Alterra Universal Charger: if it needs power, we can recharge it.

Wind Surfer

The Alterra Wind Surfer is a shining example of Alterra’s leadership in Self-Reconfiguration Technology, boosting efficiency and lowering costs by requiring fewer Scaled Manufacturing Platforms and spending less time per site.

Alterra Wind Surfer provides an integrated Wind Turbine Power Generator System, Telepower Pylon and Isolated Building Space, capable of being deployed in a variety of planetary environments.

Your mission has licensed the following Alterra Wind Surfer products:
•  Fluid Surface Platform Interface
•  Low Atmospheric Viscosity Turbines
•  Mobile Vehicle Platform Deployment Software

For your convenience, the Alterra Hub Purchasing Interface will only make these AlterraKits available when you have acquired a compatible Alterra Mobile Vehicle Platform.

The Alterra Wind Surfer system consists of three parts:

• Operator: The Alterra Wind Surfer Operator is the control center for the Wind Surfer. From here you configure the architecture of the Alterra Wind Surfer and monitor its operations. Use the central monitor in the Alterra Wind Surfer Operator to place Platforms and Turbines. Each Alterra Wind Surfer Operator can control 15 Wind Surfer modules.

The Operator has an integrated Telepower Pylon and a self-contained constructor. Platform and Turbine AlterraKits must be in range of the constructor sensor interface to be used. The Telepower Pylon designation is displayed just to the left of the Operator door under the Alterra Corp logo.

Mission Addendum: Congratulations! Your mission has licensed the Alterra SmartPigment Propagator for the Wind Surfer Operator. For your convenience, when using the Paint Tool (Home > Paint Tool) on the Wind Surfer Operator, the selected Color Palette will be propagated to all Platforms, Turbine Platforms, and attached Alterra Corporation devices overriding any previously applied color palette. Platforms, Turbine Platforms, and attached Alterra Corporation devices may be individually painted after the SmartPigment Propagator run.

Nota Bene: Attached machines and objects should be deconstructed from Platforms and Turbine Platforms before Platforms or Turbine Platforms are removed.

• Platform: Alterra Wind Surfer Platform is an open, out-door building space. Due to the nature of Self-Reconfiguration Technology, the Construct/Deconstruct Signatures are incompatible with Base Modules. While they can be built within proximity with each other, they will not integrate.

• Turbine: Alterra Wind Surfer Turbine is a floating platform with a Wind Turbine. Each Wind Turbine offers Alterra RunSafe Technology. RunSafe Technology integrates minor self-repair capabilities into an already sturdy design, reducing maintenance in harsher or more biologically complex environments and virtually eliminating it in clement ones. RunSafe Technology makes the Alterra Wind Surfer Turbine the ideal choice for all compatible environments.

Like all turbine generators, the energy produced is related to the atmospheric flow.

Production Solutions

Auto Crafter

The Alterra Auto Crafter raises the standards for small-scale automated construction, able to create complex items with multiple complex sub-components automatically. Combining multiple programming modes with Altera SwarmTech Assistive Manufacturing, the Alterra Auto Crafter leverages the Alterra Data Storage technology and Alterra Invisobot Fetch-and-Store technology to create a Fully Hands-Off Manufacturing Workflow.

The Auto Crafter will automatically retrieve the necessary materials from and return manufactured items to the various Base storage options available. The Data Storage Network is the most efficient option, however physical storage and disconnected DSS sub-node devices, such as an Alterra Remote Storage unit, that have physical access options can also be used. The Auto Crafter will dispatch Alterra Invisobots where physical transport is needed.

Warning: Do not attempt to interfere with Alterra Invisobots as they are very shy. Attempts to do so will void all Auto Crafter warranties and is a direct violation of the CyberMind Emotional Damage laws which are strictly interpreted and carry heavy, statutory financial penalties and prison time. When near an Auto Crafter, it will project some basic information about it’s current settings onto your always-up display.

Using Altera SwarmTech Assistive Manufacturing will decrease the amount of time needed to complete manufacturing runs. It can be used in any manufacturing mode but was designed with limited runs in mind. Simply open the Assist Settings and select any idle Auto Crafters from the list. Note: Auto Crafters selected for Assistance will flag themselves as busy even if the Parent Auto Crafter is not crafting since the SwarmTech technology has configured them to work as a single unit. When an Auto Crafter is in SwarmTech Assist mode, the will display an informational dialog instead of a programming interface.

Programming an Auto Crafter is easy and intuitive. Simply select the item to be manufactured, the mode of manufacture, and engage.

There are crafting modes, Fixed Amount and Continuous Operation.

In the Fixed Amount mode, the specified number of items will be created and then the program will end.

In Continuous Operation mode, the Auto Crafter remains in operation until the program is canceled. There are two modes of Continuous Operation to suit your needs.

The Infinite mode will, as the name suggests, manufacture the selected item so long as there are the required materials and space to put the completed item. This is useful when the supply of materials is restricted or when you really, really want to fill up every nook and cranny of your base with a specific item.

The Maintain Inventory mode will monitor the Base inventory and craft the selected item when the Base inventory falls below the specified number. This is an ideal mode for frequently used items or when Base inventory space is constrained and making large batches in advance is disadvantageous.

Deep Driller: Heavy Duty

The Deep Driller: Heavy Duty is designed with heavy, industrial-level operation in mind.

Successor to the wildly popular, best selling Mark 2, the Mark 3 Deep Driller family of drilling solutions to suit a variety of needs.

Building on earlier technology, the Deep Driller family comes standard with an integrated beacon, does not need skilled maintenance, and can accept an immense array of lubricative materials from simple natural oils to complex, mono-layer graphenes.

Alterra Corporation has abandoned the costly arms-race against tinkering Drill Platform Technicians and provided easy access to its internal programming along with a few custom templates. Some programming options will increase power and lubricant usage, and programming options are subject to safety limitations due to material tolerances. Remember: you are financially liable for any damage done by custom programming.

Example, Connecting an Autonomous, DSS-Aware Unit:
•  Note the Base Designation (e.g., BS011). You can find this from the home screen of the FCStudios PDA and the C48 Terminal, just to the right of the base name in the display.
•  From the Autonomous Unit’s Settings, go to the Programming page.
•  Select Templates and choose the ‘Connect to base’ template.
•  Replace the “{BaseID}” portion of the template with the Base Designation (e.g., “os.ConnectToBase(BS011);” ) and press Execute Function.

Matter Analyzer

The Alterra Matter Analyzer is the latest in QCNN Analytics of Quantum Field Dynamics, capable of producing and recording a high-resolution quantum analysis of the DNA (Deoxyribonucleic Acid) of Living Samples and the DNA (Digitized Nanoscale Architecture) of Non-living Samples.

For Living Samples, the Alterra Hydroponic Harvester (see Production > Hydroponic Harvester) will grow clones of your DNA Samples. The Hydroponic Harvester requires growable samples (seeds, cuttings, etc) so the Alterra Matter Analyzer will reject whole products that cannot germinate or otherwise regrow whole products.

For Non-living Samples, the Alterra Replicator (see Production > Replicator) will build your replicated samples from the ground up.

Recorded DNA Samples are transferred to the appropriate devices using a PDA backchannel. The Matter Analyzer does not interact with the Data Storage System, and both the Hydroponic Harvester and the Replicator receive DNA Sample recordings when your PDA is in range.

The Matter Analyzer only needs to scan an item once and will not accept items it has already scanned.

The Scanned Item Database is available for viewing via on-screen option.

Replicator

The Alterra Replicator is the new standard in non-living sample replication. Using high-resolution data from the Alterra Matter Analyzer (see Production > Matter Analyzer), the Replicator gives you a steady supply of important complex constructs.

The Alterra Replicator accesses the available DNA (Digitized Nanoscale Architecture) Database created by the Matter Analyzer. Scanned DNA Samples suitable for the Alterra Replicator are available in the user interface.

The Replicator reads the DNA Sample and builds a copy using Controlled Deposit Application technology. Designed for maximum mission flexibility, the Alterra Replicator stores 25 copies of each sample and is adaptable to severe outside environments and the exacting demands of the Habitat laboratory.

INTER-/INTRA-BASE TELEPORTATION

For Inter-Base and Intra-Base Teleportation, two Alterra Quantum Teleporters are used.

The Alterra Quantum Teleporter maintains two operating networks, Home and Global.

The Home Network
– is made up of Quantum Teleporters that are part of the Habitat region.
– transfer is instantaneous
– uses very little power (150 energy by each teleporter)
– each Quantum Teleporter is automatically listed in the Home Network

The Global network
– is made up of Quantum Teleporters that are not part of the Habitat region.
– transfer is very fast but not instantaneous
– uses quite a bit of power (1,500 energy by each teleporter)
– each Quantum Teleporter must be manually added to the Global Network — often only one Quantum Teleporter in each Base is sufficient

In the Quantum Teleporter interface, Home and Global network selections are on the left. On the right is the option to list the current Quantum Teleporter on the Global Network and the option to rename that Quantum Teleporter. Naming each Quantum Teleporter makes knowing where you are going just that much easier.

When selecting a teleport destination, the power available at the destination will be viewable.

AWAY-FROM-BASE TELEPORTATION

For Away-From-Base Teleportation, the FCStudios PDA serves as the origin with a Quantum Teleporter (for personal transportation) or a Quantum Teleporter Vehicle Pad (for vehicle transportation) serving as the destination.

Power for the outbound connection is provided by a Quantum Power Bank which you must have about your person.

Teleportation is initiated from the Teleportation section of the FCStudios PDA.

The Quantum Power Bank holds a charge of 3000 units, sufficient to teleport the mass of a person two times or the mass of a vehicle one time.

The Alterra Quantum Power Bank is a Parallel Pulse Discharge (PPD) storage unit, able to discharge in several picoseconds, sufficient to energize the substrate material in the FCStudios PDA to create a sufficiently rigid and anisotropic Einstein-Rosen equation state and open a single-sided Einstein-Rosen bridge to the selected destination.

Nota Bene: the PPD storage medium is altered at the quantum level during the discharge, rendering it inert. Due to manufacturing difficulty, devices using PPD are only suitable for emergency situations.

The Alterra Quantum Power Bank Charger will “repackage” a viable PPD storage medium into the Quantum Power Bank. A new “storage medium material” will be required each time the Quantum Power Bank is placed in the Quantum Power Bank Charger.

The Alterra Quantum Teleporter and the Alterra Quantum Teleporter Vehicle Pad serve as end-point destinations for personal and vehicle teleportation respectively.

Please Note:
• Personal Teleportation: Only Alterra Quantum Teleporters on the Global Network are viable destinations.
• Vehicle Teleportation: Careful consideration should be given to the placement of the Alterra Quantum Teleporter Vehicle Pad so that it does not interfere with base structures or base traffic patterns.

The Alterra Recycler is a leader in state-of-the-art Recycling Technology. Not merely able to break down components from blueprints it knows, it has the ability to break down any Alterra technology quickly and cleanly.

Recyclable items may be deposited directly at the Alterra Recycler or via the ultra-convenient Alterra Trash Receptacle (Home > Trash Receptacle).

Introduction to Data Storage

The Alterra Data Storage Network family of devices brings you the absolute latest in what we are legally required to call “Data Storage” (see Legal Notice below).

The à la carte design of the catalog lets you build your Data Storage Networks to fit your specific needs. Whether it’s an S23 Terminal with a single server or an interconnected web of habitats filled with Floor Server Racks and vehicles servicing Remote Storage Units for a farm of Autonomous Drill Platforms, the Alterra Data Storage Network sizes to fit any need.

WARNING: storing sentient life forms (or humans) is not supported by the Data Storage Network. Should you accidentally store a fellow sentient or human, you will be responsible for bringing them out IMMEDIATELY. And you will be liable for all subsequent medical and psychological treatment fees as well as any court costs when Alterra Corporation sues you for violation of the EULA. Should you accidentally become stored, Alterra Corp will send a complimentary condolence card to your listed next-of-kin.

LEGAL NOTICE: In Psychologists United v. Data Disk

The Alterra Data Disk is the heart of the Data Storage System. These versatile units hold access-address data for 48 items of any type.

Data Disks can be hot-swapped between Server Racks at any time and make an economical method of transporting a large number of items when a Habitat is not connected to the Global Network (see Storage > Antenna).

Data Disks themselves can be stored on a server HOWEVER a ‘specific’ Data Disk cannot be removed from a Data Storage Terminal and the order of removal is not controlled — this is due to a defect in the quantum fabric of the universe and Alterra Engineering is actively looking for the proper supreme-entity with which to file a bug report.

Data Disks can be configured to filter items via the Server Interface (see Storage > Server Racks) and requires an exemplar item to scan to configure the filter.

The Alterra Data Disk: knowing where all your stuff is so you don’t have to.

Remote Storage Unit

The Alterra Remote Storage Unit is a rugged storage platform suitable for use in all environments. Self-powering and 100% maintenance free thanks to a robust implementation of Alterra RunSafe Technology, the unit is suitable for small to medium scale industrial service — for large scale industry, multiple Remote Storage Units are recommended.

For niche service, the Remote Storage Unit can operate on its own in remote areas as a material cache or as general storage in habitats without a Data Storage Network.

Specs:
    •  designed for exterior use but has been refitted to allow service within a habitat as well
    •  internal server bay with Data Storage for 200 items
    •  specialized, short-range Data Storage antennae for connections to multiple DSS-Aware Autonomous Drill Platforms (see Production > Deep Driller: Heavy Duty) as well as in-range Data Storage Access Terminals.

Nota Bene: In most applications, items are deposited via Data Storage Network technology, but it is still possible to add items by hand. Focus away from the UI and the Remote Storage Unit will display instructions in your personal always-up display.

Server Racks

Alterra Server Racks are maintenance-free housing units for Alterra Data Disks (see Storage > Data Disk), with integrated capacity display, easy-access bays, and a stylish exterior.

This Digital Catalog contains two Rack styles:

Wall Server Rack
• attached to interior wall surface (wall not included)
• 6 Data Disk bays (total storage: 288 items)

Floor Server Rack
• free-standing (floor not included)
• 20 Data Disk bays (total storage: 960 items)

Alterra Data Disks are added via the central loader. Alterra Data Disks can be ejected or configured for filtering by using the selective-interaction controls accessed when touching the individual Data Disk capacity display.

Terminal C48

The Alterra C48 Terminal is the next level in Data Storage Access and Control. With access to every connected storage network, manufacturing center, industrial site, cyclops, and remote habitat, the C48 Terminal puts the entire Global Data Storage Network at your fingertips.

Your Mission Package includes the following Plugins:
• Moonpool Auto-Extraction (Local: accessed by ‘Change Screen’ control)
• Transceiver Automation (Global: accessed via the Global Network > Base > Settings control)

Data Storage Network

Access to all connected locations is available from the Global icon in the upper-left along with the Add Items and Power controls.

Item viewing defaults to All Items but can be limited to items stored in Server Racks, Remote Storage Units, or Storage Lockers. Or you can simply Search for the item.

To conveniently withdraw multiple items, adjust the Multiplier control (located to the left of the Search control).

Moonpool Controls

Select a moonpool-docked vehicle to access its storage bays. You may load and unload items from any selected storage compartment.

Access “Moonpool Settings” to control docking behavior.

The Data Storage Network can be set to automatically pull items from docked vehicles – toggle is in the lower right. You may also elect to “Blacklist” certain items from being automatically unloaded from docked vehicles.

To access the storage containers of vehicles docked at the local base, select the vehicle name from Available Vehicles. Please be aware that non-blacklisted items may be transferred into DSS if placed in the storage containers of docked vehicles.

Terminal S23

Alterra S23 Terminals are the hallmark of accessibility. These small, inexpensive screens give you convenient access to your Data Storage Network even in the tightest spaces.

The S23 Terminal gives you direct access to a single item. Activate the center of the device and provide it an item example to scan. The S23 Terminal will give you access to that item until reset by the icon on the left of the screen.

Multiple S23 Terminals can be configured to deliver the same item, decreasing restocking tasks while reducing item redundancy and the lost hours looking for misplaced tools: no need to make, store, and misplace 20 Repair Tools to pass that safety audit, just place 1 Repair Tool in Data Storage and grab it from the conveniently located S23 Terminal, and toss it back in Data Storage from any other conveniently located S23 Terminal.

New in the S23 model is a bi-directional Data Storage Network antenna for the added convenience of adding all types of items into your Data Storage Network. Access is with the icon at the top left of the UI.

Nota Bene: the S23 Terminal will only access local servers.

Transceiver

The Alterra Transceiver is a Data Storage Network Utility Extension Component, allowing compatible devices to request items from the Local Data Storage Network.

Device Connection

Compatible Alterra Devices designed to work within the Base Area Network will auto-configure when a transceiver is detected. Those designed to work autonomously or outside the Base Area Network (such as the Alterra Deep Driller: Heavy Duty) will have to be manually configured at the device.

Connecting an Autonomous, DSS-Aware Unit:
    •  Note the Base Designation (e.g., BS011). You can find this from the home screen of the FCStudios PDA and the C48 Terminal, just to the right of the base name in the display.
    •  From the Autonomous Unit’s Settings, go to the Programming page.
    •  Select Templates and choose the ‘Connect to base’ template.
    •  Replace the “{BaseID}” portion of the template with the Base Designation (e.g., “os.ConnectToBase(BS011);” ) and press Execute Function.

If executed properly, you will have a toggleable option to enable/disable connection to the configured base.

Transceiver Settings

Technical Note: The Alterra C48 Terminal is required (see Storage > C48 Terminal)

Transceiver-enabled devices connected to a Base are displayed in Base Settings (C48 Terminal > Global Icon > Base > Settings). Select a device to bring up the Transceiver Settings.

In Transceiver Settings you may:
    •  Enable or Disable the operation.
    •  Select the items to transfer.
    •  Set the “minimum inventory” number of items to keep in the target device.
    •  Set the “reserve amount” to keep a minimum number of transferable items on-hand. The Transceiver will only send if your storage has more than this number of items.

Compatible Devices:

    •  Alterra Gen
    •  Alterra Deep Driller: Heavy Duty

Life Support Solutions

Base Oxygen Tank

The Alterra Base Oxygen Tank is a time-tested design that still sees service everywhere there isn’t air. No fancy technology, no routine maintenance, it just filters and pressurizes surface air to supply your Habitat.

This comparatively low-yield device was designed with small, near-surface Habitats in mind; however, there is no technical limit on depth or distance so long as air can be supplied to the Base Oxygen Tank.

[Notice: Duplicate Product Detected in Mission PDA. Congratulations! It seems your mission licensed the blueprint for the Base Oxygen Tank as a safety measure. Because of this, your Builder Tool will have two options for building the Base Oxygen Tank, using either local materials or an AlterraKit.]

Basic Setup:
    •  Attach the Base Oxygen Tank
    •  Float an Air Pump to the surface
    •  Connect the Floating Air Pump to Base Oxygen Tank with air tubing
    •  Connecting: air tubing will automatically connect when in range
    •  Disconnecting: you must manually disconnect the pipe at the connector before the air tubing can be collected

Caveats:
• A Floating Air Pump only delivers enough air for one Base Oxygen Tank
• The Base-attached Air Pump cannot be used due to insufficient airflow and lapsed licensing agreements

The Base Oxygen Tank works with the built-in air movers present in each Habitat Module to move air through the Habitat but lacks both the oxygen output and the integrated support technology for optimal oxygen distribution that are present in the Base Utility Unit (see Life Support > Base Utility Unit).

Supplying your Habitat with sufficient air is important. If Habitat size exceeds the Base Oxygen Tank carrying capacity, it will be harder to breathe and recharge air tanks. The Base Oxygen Tank will display important capacity information to your always-up display when you are in range, telling you the number of Active and Required Tanks (e.g. Active Tanks: 1, Required Tanks: 1.2).

Planning for your air needs ahead of time may be crucial for your survival. In general, the Base Oxygen Tank can support 2 large Habitat modules or 10 smaller modules and connector modules, mixed in any combination. For example, an outpost consisting of a Multipurpose Room, Scanner Room, two connector modules, and an Observatory would display “Required Tanks: .9”

Base Utility Unit

The Alterra Base Utility Unit is the ultimate advancement in self-sustaining Habitat Support, performing many small service functions to ensure optimal equipment performance and longevity. Built with Alterra RunSafe self-repair technology, it even looks after itself.

All Alterra Habitat Module and Base Component blueprints incorporate Alterra Unified Material Manifold technology, allowing the Base Utility Unit to channel service products where they are needed.

Limited Life-Support functions are provided by the Base Utility Unit:

Water:

When submerged, the Unified Material Manifold provides biologically-inert, pressurized water throughout the habitat. The water is suitable for industrial usage or waste-removal and cleanup but is not potable: only water that has been filtered should be consumed. Consuming unfiltered water may void your tongue’s warranty and contain prions or other sub-biological compounds that will turn your insides into [continuation of this entry only suitable for those over the age of 95 so they won’t have long to live with the post traumatic stress].

Habitat Modules with water-using Appliances or Industrial Machinery no longer need to be submerged as the Unified Material Manifold ensures uniform pressure in all Habitat Modules.

Oxygen:

The Unified Material Manifold provides oxygen at high pressure and intelligently operates the air processing membranes in each base module’s air handler system, providing optimal atmospheric balance. Base Utility Units use an Adaptive-Collaboration Design allowing multiple Base Utility Units to work together seamlessly. Please contact the Alterra Base Construction Guidelines Committee before off-world habitat construction for optimal Personnel/Module/Unit ratios.

Oxygen in the Base Utility Module can be tapped into directly when in front of the unit.
